7 Days or Less Off Sick
If you’re off work sick for 7 days or less, your employer should not ask for medical evidence that you’ve been ill. Instead they can ask you to confirm that you’ve been ill.
More Than 7 Days Off Sick
If you’re off work sick for more than 7 days, your employer will usually ask for a fit note (or Statement of Fitness for Work – MED3) from a healthcare professional. Fit notes are sometimes referred to as medical statements or a doctor’s note.
If your employer asks for evidence for the prior 7 days of sickness, a fee may be charged for this. Your employer should pay the fee.
You can request a fit note from our practice via:
- Via the NHS app (Services –> Contact your GP for a document or Update –> Continue)
- By filling out an Accurx Request (Admin –> Fit Note)
- Calling our practice
You do not need to call us to be allowed to return to work, your own word to your employer is enough.
